Artist A's Journey

Small Beginnings
I did not like the black paper at first; it had no feeling or life. I knew I wanted to fill the space with colour but I wanted some shapes too. It is not random but I wanted so much happening. I like the movement of the colours. The picture is called "Small Beginnings" because I felt drawn to the centre of the black space to start life and colour and spread out in a burst of energy. The picture looks to me now like a butterfly and a firework, fragile and colourful but full of energy and power but connected by colours. The kaleidoscope effect is pleasing to me to look at. I like the connection it seems to me when I bring it back to K. I look at what I have drawn and know that I have inspiration from her, yet I also want to give inspiration back and share all I can.

Small Beginnings
Where do I start when I start
in the dark?
Pick a spot, a place and go.
Do not be afraid of the dark
Do not be confined, spread out!
Can the colour sustain, can it
breathe life into the darkness.
Yes...
...There is energy and there
is you together The darkness is filled
with love any way you look.
If you look into the dark long
enough the colours will come
and you will breathe again and
I will breathe again with you.

Breaking Free
I wanted to convey support and strength; the picture is depicting my hands helping break K. out of the glass ball she is in. You can see her but can never really get close, but she has the strength too. She has always had it to get out. I do not like the dark background. I feel some rays of light would work to show the new dawn. Plus, I do like the broken glass/egg thing which symbolizes the help one sometimes needs. But the glass is breaking outwards, thus K. within is coming out of her "shell" and I am offering guidance and support. I draw her naked as she is also breaking out and showing her femininity and body. She is proud and strong - a warrior woman. The blue liquid was an afterthought - something she needed to survive inside but, knowing her now, it is not needed so it dries/flows away and she is supporting herself naturally.
The picture should have smiles or laughter in it as when she can laugh at life then she will truly be K.

Breaking Free
I know you are in there K! The real you is hidden from outsiders who do not understand. Every so often you allow a special few to see hear and know you. I am one but I can also see inside and sometimes, I come in when you may not know it. I look into your eyes and then look, really look into your eyes. I want you to be the one to decide when and where you break out, break loose. Perhaps I can offer support and strength and patience to allow you to know you can try. I do not feel it is right and OK to tell you what to do. You have to make that decision. I will be there to encourage you, to let you know it is safe and an OK place to be. It is never black out there - your eyes need to adjust and then you will see. You will see me.
Know yourself
For some reason, with the grey, I did not want an obvious boundary or edge. So I started by putting in the top left circle and it felt good to continue the look and give the circles substance.
A little light reflects from somewhere and, once done, I realised I wanted a figure in that reflection.
Finally, I wanted myself in the picture. That is me bottom left, reaching out perhaps in wonder/realisation that laid bare I am beginning to know who I am and it feels good. Lastly, the colour I drew around the mandala seemed to suggest a bubble so I drew more to make it more obvious. I do not know why a bubble, but the image pleased me.

Know yourself When you are born anything can
happen
And after you are born it does.
Life gives and takes - the secret
is to let it!
Learn from her and listen to
her teachings.
You start to understand and you
become aware of who you have
become.
You know yourself and then you
can teach her and become at one with life.
Take her hand and enjoy the journey.
