Then this could be an ideal time to schedule a MARI Card Test. Read on to help you evaluate whether you're truly interested. Also, be sure to click on examples of people's art and writing at right and below to see how the process can unfold. (Used with permission.)

The MARI (Mandala Assessment Research Institute) Card Test is a non-verbal projective instrument that was originally developed in 1978, by a registered art therapist named Joan Kellogg. The test uses a wide variety of archetypal forms and a broad spectrum of colors to assess a person's present state of being. The test does not provide a diagnosis or predict the future, but instead allows a person to know more about him/herself. Research is currently being conducted to establish the MARI Card Test's validity and reliability.

All individuals seeking services from Arts for Replenishment and Change will engage in a four-part artistic process which includes:

  1. selecting a personalized subset of MARI cards from among the complete set of archetypal forms and colors;

  2. creating a series of oil pastel drawings (mandalas), which portrays an inner conversation with oneself, while music is played to enhance the artistic process;

  3. writing about their art to explore what they have learned; and

  4. engaging in an immediate feedback discussion with Dr. Coffey to gain insights from the MARI Card Test findings and to honor the wisdom within their unique art and writing.

If reading about this creative arts therapy experience leads you to think you might benefit from a MARI Card Assessment, contact Dr. Coffey and she will welcome you.
